It is the southernmost of the three regional campuses of Rutgers—the others being located in New Brunswick and Newark. It is classified among "R2: Doctoral Universities High research activity".
Materials Science at Rutgers University-Camden is an interdisciplinary field explored primarily within the Department of Physics and the Department of Chemistry. These departments provide a strong foundation in the fundamental principles of materials, covering their structure properties processing and performance. Students and faculty actively engage in materials-related studies and research benefiting from hands-on learning and access to advanced materials characterization equipment. Research focuses include bionanotechnology sustainable materials and materials physics often conducted in collaborative environments like the Joint Health Sciences Center and the Physics Laser Materials Lab. This approach offers robust opportunities for both undergraduate and graduate students interested in materials science within a dynamic research environment.
